Linus Ullmark potential trade heats up with latest update from insider!
Can the Bruins really pull this off?

Ever since Bruins insider Fluto Shinzawa of The Athletic wondered if Boston could dare to trade netminder Linus Ullmark, there’s been a frenzy on the market. On top of that, the trade market for goalies has dried up, especially since the Edmonton Oilers and Carolina Hurricanes are no longer for an upgrade in between the pipes. This means that a club like the New Jersey Devils could look to acquire Ullmark from the Bruins if they cannot manage to land netminder Jacob Markstrom from the Calgary Flames before Friday. This is the latest update on Wednesday morning from insider Pierre LeBrun, who also wonders if they could turn to Nashville Predators’ Kevin Lankinen as a rental option before revisiting the issue during the offseason.
“Devils goalie options: preferred route is still to get Markstrom out of Calgary, or does an Ullmark trade with Boston make sense. If that can’t be, then wait until summer to fix the net but in meantime, maybe a stopgap measure. Rental Kevin Lankinen in Nash as an option?”
Many believe Jeremy Swayman is ready to be the team’s full-time starter. The young goalie signed a one-year, $3.475 million contract in arbitration last summer and is scheduled for restricted free agency again in July. He could be given the full starting role and the Bruins could go get an affordable veteran backup option to support him in the future.
A move involving Ullmark would provide the Bruins the opportunity to upgrade other areas of the roster while also freeing up $5 million in cap space.
But it also means breaking up a strong goaltending duo, which could have a detrimental impact on the Bruins’ dressing room at a crucial time in the season.
Maybe a trade that ships Ullmark out of Boston is possible, but I bet it will have to be an unbelievable offer to make it happen.
