Boston Bruins goaltender Linus Ullmark is enjoying a fantastic season in his second year with the team since coming over as a free agent from the Buffalo Sabres. As it currently stands, Ullmark has a near perfect record of 17-1-1 with a sparking 1.83 goals against average and .938 save percentage, good for 1st in the NHL in all three categories.
His strong play between the pipes has been a huge reason why the Bruins are the top dog (or bear) in the National Hockey League right now, which is not something that fans or pundits imagined happening. In fact, most projections before this season had the Bruins taking a major step backward. But as they say, that's why the games are played on ice, and not on paper.
Ullmark was pictured in practice earlier today rocking a customized graphic design from Bauer, and fans will immediately recognize it as a tribute to former Bruins goaltender Byron Dafoe. Additionally, his new mask artwork is a perfect tribute to another former Bruins goaltender in Andy Moog. He'll be wearing the setup in the upcoming Winter Classic matchup against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
“Overall, I just wanted to have something that’s very simple and detailed in a way. I wanted the mask to be a little bit old school,” said Ullmark. “Late 1980’s, early 1990’s you had Lord Byron, Byron Dafoe, and I just loved the swag that he had.”
