Leafs release discouraging update on Jake McCabe
He left last night's game and did not return.

The good news for the Toronto Maple Leafs is that they were able to earn a gutsy victory on the road against the Dallas Stars, who advanced to the Western Conference Final last season, at American Airlines Center in Dallas by a 4-1 final score. Morgan Rielly tallied a goal and an assist, while goaltender Joseph Woll looked strong by making 31 saves.
The bad news is that they lost defenseman Jake McCabe, who was only able to skate in a single shift last night before departing the game with an injury. He was originally designated as "questionable" to return, before ultimately not seeing the ice again for the rest of the night.
And according to head coach Sheldon Keefe afterward, there is "concern" that he won't be able to play in their next game, which will be Saturday night against the Nashville Predators in Music City, where they'll face former Leafs forward Ryan O'Reilly.
"I would say there is concern there," Keefe said of McCabe. "We won’t know the extent of it until we get more information and get pictures."
The latest update all but confirms that McCabe will not be able to play tomorrow night:
McCabe was acquired in a trade with the Chicago Blackhawks last season along with Sam Lafferty (who now plays for the Vancouver Canucks) in exchange for a protected 2025 First Round pick, 2026 Second Round pick, Joey Andreson, and Pavel Gogolev.
A positive note is that the defenseman was seen walking around with no apparent difficulties after the game, but we all know that looks can certainly be deceiving. So far in the seven games that he's played in this season, McCabe has yet to register a point while also posting a pedestrian -4 plus/minus rating. His status should be determined at some point tomorrow.
The Maple Leafs will be taking on the Nashville Predators tomorrow night at 7:00 PM.
