Leafs’ Brendan Shanahan puts his job on the line with plan for drastic move!

Bad move or great move in Toronto?

Chris Gosselin

Toronto Maple Leafs president and alternate governor Brendan Shanahan only has a year left on his contract and if he wants to come back to the franchise, he may need to pull a crazy move in and risk it all.

According to Hockey Patrol, there is a feeling that “Shanahan is likely going to force GM Brad Treliving to trade either Easton Cowan and/or Fraser Minten, in order to add as many veteran players as possible so that the Leafs can win now, not later.”

At the end of the season, press conference, Maple Leafs fans were shocked to find out that Shanahan was staying put as the team’s president for the upcoming season. He had gone on to explain that the Maple Leafs will look at everything this summer and considering changing everything, adding that the patterns have become too familiar to stay patient.

This could mean a drastic trade involving Cowan or Fraser since Shanahan basically has nothing to lose at this point. Since he is not concerned about the long-term, there could be a chance with see one or even both of these great prospects on the move to get immediate help in Toronto and who knows, maybe a championship in 2025.

Shanahan is coming off his 10th season with the Maple Leafs since being named president in 2014. His current contract is set to expire next summer after signing a six-year extension in 2019.

Do you believe he is making the right call in trying to convince GM Treliving to make monster moves involving Cowan and/or Minten?
