Defenseman P.K. Subban might have enjoyed his time working for ESPN as an analyst for the 2022 Stanley Cup playoffs, he is adamant he’s still got plenty left in the tank to play in the NHL. The 33-year-old became an unrestricted free agent on Wednesday and is still looking for a new deal.

While everyone thought he was done in New Jersey, where he spent the last three seasons with the Devils, general manager Tom Fitzgerald said on Friday that the door hasn’t closed for Subban to return with the team, according to ESPN's Greg Wyshynski.

This is confusing seeing that Subban landed in trade rumours many times during his stint with New Jersey, where he landed after a move from the Nashville Predators.

There was a sense that there could be some interested from the Toronto Maple Leafs, which got fans and maybe even Subban himself dreaming of playing for his hometown team with his buddy John Tavares. However Toronto signed two free agent blue liners in Victor Mete and Jordie Benn on Thursday, making the move almost impossible at this point.

The flashy defenseman might be running out of options and maybe GM Fitzgerald feels he could have him back for cheap. Winning the Stanley Cup is still the ultimate goal for Subban and with the Devils’ latest addition of Ondrej Palat, it could be a possibility.

Let’s just see first where Subban signs as a free agent before looking at his chances of becoming a Stanley Cup champion before he has to hang up the skates…
