Latest offer for J.T. Miller : Canucks forced to part with another piece or bust

The rumours haven’t quieted down and many believe this offer is the one or bust! Full details below:

It’s been weeks and the speculations have not quiet down in Vancouver and we have reached the point where most insiders and pundits believe forward J.T. Miller will be the one traded by the Canucks. Just this weekend, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman revealed that a transaction almost took place but fell apart before Miller was in the lineup for Saturday’s game against the Edmonton Oilers.

The New York Rangers are reportedly the ones after Miller and now Patrick Johnston of the Province claims that the latest offer to get him out of Vancouver and in the Big Apple is asking for another piece to be on the table.

Johnston is adamant that Miller will only get traded to the Rangers, but for that to happen, he believes the Canucks will need to part with a prospect, especially if salary retention is involved.

“So, really, all eyes should remain focused on the Rangers. That deal seems to be the closest to becoming a reality. It would seem that the holdup remains how the deal would be structured. To move Miller, the Canucks are going to have to attach some sort of sweetener, whether that’s salary retention (which you suspect the Canucks are wont to do) or adding a prospect, of which the Canucks don’t have many and the few good ones they have they don’t want to deal.”

Forward Filip Chytil, defenseman Ryan Lindgren, and a first-round pick were reportedly part of the package that Rangers general manager Chris Drury had offered Vancouver before the trade was called off.

Miller, who does have a no-trade clause in his contract, is believed to be very interested in returning to New York, as he was selected by the Rangers in the first round of the 2011 NHL Draft. He played parts of his first six seasons with them until getting traded to the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2018.

While Miller has the scoring touch and physicality that the Rangers need to inject in their lineup, the Canucks might struggle to part with another piece to make this trade happen and start a new leaf in Vancouver.
