Kyle Dubas steals another Leafs executive
He's raiding the Leafs' entire staff!
Ooops... he did it again.
Pittsburgh Penguins general manager Kyle Dubas has once again lured an executive from the Toronto Maple Leafs to join him in Pittsburgh.
Kyle Cushman of The Score reports that Dubas and the Penguins have added Leafs scout Chris Roque, joining fellow former Leafs scout Wes Clark who left the Leafs for Pittsburgh earlier this month.
Check it out:
Dubas and Roque's professional relationship dates back to... surprise, surprise... Dubas' time in the OHL with the Soo Greyhounds. For all the grief that Dubas gets from some fans as an analytic-based, big-brained, over-thinker, he's actually more in the vein of an old-school, boys club style NHL GM. He hires his buddies from his glory days in junior hockey, just like every other old-school GM in the NHL. Dubas, Clark, Roque and former Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe were a power team for years with the Greyhounds and Dubas has done his best to keep the group together in the NHL. It didn't work out in Toronto, but he's trying it once again in Pittsburgh. Third time's the charm?
