Kris Knoblauch makes big changes to Oilers lineup on Monday.

After a bad start to the season, the head coach of the Edmonton Oilers is making big changes.

The head coach of the Edmonton Oilers is shaking things up in a big way on Monday. After watching his team plummet to the bottom of the National Hockey League's Pacific Division, just a mere 2 points ahead of the winless San Jose Sharks, it would seem that Oilers bench boss Kris Knoblauch has seen enough.

Knoblauch introduced significant changes to his forward group on Monday, drastically altering the team's top two lines and as a result making significant changes to the entire forward group as he looks to find solutions to the Oilers offensive struggles.

The biggest change was the decision to separate star forwards Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid who had previously been working on the team's top line together, with veteran forward Ryan Nugent-Hopkins moving up to the top line to replace Draisaitl on the wing.

Draisaitl will move down to take the center position on the team's second line, a position that was previously occupied by the aforementioned Nugent-Hopkins. That will however not be the only change to the second line with Mattias Janmark getting bumped off the wing in favor of veteran forward Jeff Skinner who now moves back into the Oilers top 6.

Janmark and Skinner are simply swapping spots, with Janmark now playing the wing alongside Connor Brown on a line centered by NHL veteran Adam Henrique. The only line to remain untouched was the fourth line, with Vasily Podkolzin, Derek Ryan and Corey Perry all remaining in their respective sports.

You can hardly blame Knoblauch for making big changes after the Oilers have managed to pick up just 2 wins, and only 4 points, after their first 6 games of the regular season. Even worse, the Oilers currently boast an abysmal -12 goal different through 6 games played, a trend that will have to change if they expect to be a playoff contender this season.

No changes to the defensive pairings, at least not on Monday, which suggest that Knoblauch feels it is his offense that needs to show improvement.

Here is a look at the full lineup from today's morning skate:
