On Tuesday, ahead of the Maple Leafs’ preseason tilt against the Montreal Canadiens, Toronto made significant cuts to its roster and made some tough decisions.

And it appears that a decision has also been made on the future of Josh Ho-Sang with the team, he who signed a professional tryout deal ahead of the Maple Leafs’ training camp.

TSN insider Chris Johnston now reports that Ho-Sang has signed an AHL contract with the Toronto Marlies.

The Islanders chose not to qualify the pending RFA making him an unrestricted free agent for the first since being drafted 28th overall by the Islanders back in 2014. The skilled 25-year-old forward has played just 53 NHL games with the Islanders and has bounced around the AHL and the Swedish Hockey League these past two seasons when it was clear that he wasn’t in the Isles long or short term plans.

While he may not be in the Maple Leafs’ plans for now, he might have a shot to impress them in the AHL. As Johnston points out though, he would need to sign an NHL deal with Toronto before he could join the team on a potential call-up.

"This allows him to report directly to the Marlies without first clearing waivers."
