St. Louis Blues goaltender Jordan Binnington has shown a tendency to get very physical for a goaltender and he was up to those antics again on Saturday night against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
In the closing seconds of the first period, Binnington delivered a shot to the face of Penguins forward Jason Zucker with his glove hand as Zucker was going around the St. Louis Blues net. Although the blow from Binnington wasn't the most forceful shot you're ever going to see, it was enough to knock the streaking Zucker off balance and send him crashing awkwardly into the boards.
Here are a few angles:
This was initially ruled a "high stick" by the officials on the ice, but after review there was quickly no high stick involved in the play and this resulted in no penalty for Binnington and no man advantage for the Penguins.
Just a few nights ago, Binnington was once again a physical factor in the game when he delivered a hit to Jordan Staal of the Carolina Hurricanes.
