John Tortorella shares his unfiltered thoughts on the city of Vancouver.
Tortorella goes off.
On Saturday night, Philadelphia Flyers head coach John Tortorella and his team were in Vancouver to take on the Vancouver Canucks in a battle of two teams that are both looking like they will be sellers come the National Hockey League's March 3rd trade deadline.
Although the game itself didn't matter a great deal in the grand scheme of things with both the Flyers and the Canucks well out of the playoff hunt, it was a return of some sort for Tortorella who had previously had a controversial tenure as a head coach in Vancouver.
Prior to the game Tortorella was asked to share his thoughts on the city of Vancouver, a question that was no doubt designed to provoke a fiery response from Tortorella given how his tenure in Vancouver ended, and in true Tortorella fashion the Flyers bench boss did not disappoint.
Torotella began by praising the city itself and its fans, but was also quick to throw out some barbs at the things he wasn't so found of in the city.
"I loved it here," admitted Tortorella on Saturday. "The fans were fantastic... you guys in the media were idiots as far as I was concerned. The fans, the city, being out in the city, it's such a beautiful city, the building, I loved it here."
When he was asked to clarify his comments about the idiots in the media, Tortorella would not name any names but did sarcastically refer to some of the 'beauties' covering the Canucks.
"I'm not sure who is still out here now in the group, but there were a couple of beauties when I was here," said Tortorella sarcastically. "I guess it's all part of your job right?"
It genuinely sounds like Tortorella would have enjoyed to continue living life in Vancouver, but unfortunately that was not to be.
"I was here a year right? My wife and I, the players, I loved being here," said Tortorella. "But a few other people didn't like me being here so we had to leave."
