The Philadelphia Flyers are on track to once again miss the postseason, and have made the franchise altering choice this morning to fire general manager Chuck Fletcher and replace him on an interim basis with former Flyers forward Danny Briere.
In the meantime, the Flyers continue to be led behind the bench by fiery veteran coach John Tortorella, who is in his first year in the City of Brotherly Love. And as is his reputation, Tortorella pulls no punches and tells it how he sees it - regardless of how literally anyone else feels about it.
And in classic Torts form, he's right back at it again by throwing his players under the bus with his latest comments. Following last night's 1-0 loss to the contending Carolina Hurricanes at PNC Arena, he had the following to say about his team's performance during the game and it came with a grim prediction for the rest of the season:
“I don’t know what else to tell ya," he said. "We don’t make enough plays, we haven’t made enough plays and we probably won’t the rest of the year.”
Talk about giving your purely unfiltered view of things!
According to NHL Insider Elliott Friedman of Sportsnet, he doesn't believe that Briere will be removing Tortorella from his position.
"Right now he's the guy, the Flyers put him on their rebuilding letter, it's clear the fanbase believes in what he's doing," Friedman said in his latest 32 Thoughts column. "It's pretty clear to me he has a big say at least in the roster and who he thinks deserves to be on the roster".
