The Boston Bruins are in Colorado later tonight to face the Avalanche with the Avs more than hungry for their first victory of the 2024-24 season. When asked by reporters who would be his starting netminder for the contest, Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery refused to answer the question, leaving fans concerned about the lineup.

“…in net I’m not going to say right now.”

He did however revealed what changes he was making to the rest of the lineup:

“Riley Tufty and Max Jones are in playing on the third line with Matt Poitras taking out Morgan Geekie and Justin Brazeau….”

It is no secret that Jeremy Swayman struggled in net for the Bruins Monday, allowing four goals on 26 shots faced in a 4-3 loss to the Florida Panthers. It’s been a battle for consistency between the pipes to begin the season, allowing four goals in two of his three starts in the crease for Boston.

After the messy contract stalemate and his long awaited return to the Bruins’ roster, let’s just say it’s not the start anyone imagined from Swayman, who inked a massive eight-year, $66 million contract with a salary cap hit of $8.25 million right before the season got underway. He did however missed training camp. He is one of just six goalies with a cap hit above $6.4 million for the 2024-25 season.

Could he be dealing with too much pressure?

Despite putting up a 2-2-0 record so far this season, expectations remain high for the Bruins entering the 2024-25 season as the team hasn’t won multiple rounds in the playoffs since 2019.

The Avalanche are however having much more issues in net at this time with Alexander Georgiev going from bad to worse. He has been pulled in both of his starts so far, allowing eight goals in 61:56 of time for a .680 save percentage.
