Jeremy Roenick’s accusations against Connor Bedard has got everyone exasperated!
Insiders cannot believe the retired NHLer is going after the young superstar like that and think he’s crossing a line! And for what?! Get full story below:
The Winter Classic is a special event each year that players across the NHL feel proud to take a part into. You can only imagine what it meant for a young superstar like Connor Bedard of the Chicago Blackhawks in the traditional contest against the St. Louis Blues more than a week ago. However, his experience was pretty much ruined on the spot, and this, by none other than former Hawk and Hall of Famer Jeremy Roenick.
You see what happened in that Roenick had some choice words for Bedard after Dec. 31st when he appeared on the podcast with former NHL referee Tim Peel, who also took shots at the young Blackhawk. Roenick commented that Bedard didn’t have respect and needed to learn after snubbing him of a fist bump at the 2025 Winter Classic.
“There needs to be respect in the game and there needs to be respect for the history of the game," Roenick said. "But there’s one player that didn’t come up to me, Chelly, or Savvy, and that was the superstar of the Chicago Blackhawks. That’s Connor Bedard.”
Without giving any more details on what took place or even considering that Bedard was too focused on the game ahead, Roenick did hesitate to humiliate the young player.
Almost immediately, Roenick’s comments were met with backlash with the overall feeling being that the former NHLer was simply being insecure and looking to get sympathy and attention from one of the NHL’s biggest names, maybe even in a way to get publicity for his podcast and other endeavours.
Hawks insiders Mark Lazerus and Scott Powers called him out for it on the Athletic:
“In what can only be seen as a desperate plea for attention for his podcast co-hosted by disgraced referee Tim Peel (Roenick made the remarks),” Powers and Lazerus wrote. ”
“Roenick was a great player and a fan-favorite in Chicago during his stint with the Blackhawks. He’s not doing himself or his reputation any favors with nonsense like this. But hey, get those clicks, man.”
The comments from both insiders seem to be what most fans are thinking about the feud initiated by Roenick. Most fans aren’t taking it seriously and we can only hope that Bedard is not paying much attention to it and remains focused on playing tremendous hockey in Chicago.
