Jamie Benn and Zach Hyman go from best friends to bitter enemies in 3 seconds.

A drastic and sudden turn of events.

Today's afternoon game between the Dallas Stars and the Edmonton Oilers may have produced one of the funniest moments we've seen so far in the 2022-23 National Hockey League regular season.

Although the outing itself is likely one that the Oilers are going to want to forget sooner rather than later, there was a moment during the game that elicited a laugh even from the Oilers fans who were currently witnessing their team in the process of being dismantled by a score of 6-2.

That moment came when Dallas Stars captain Jamie Benn and Edmonton Oilers forward Zach Hyman appeared to share a moment at the blue line during a bit of a scrum between the two opposing teams. What initially looked like a nice moment of a friendship between the two competitors would quickly turn ugly though when Benn decided that things were a little too friendly for his liking.

The Stars captain would proceed to bring his stick down, quite deliberately, onto the stick of Hyman, knocking the stick right out of the hands of the Oilers forward. Hyman would reach for the stick and initially did not appear poised to retaliate, but some further instigation from Benn would eventually provoke a reaction.

You can see the hilarious interaction in the short clip below.
