Jacob Trouba reveals the real reason he blocked 2 trades.
The now former captain of the New York Rangers opens up about his decision to block two trades.
The now former captain of the New York Rangers has finally had a chance to have his say after months of trade speculation that all began after he allegedly blocked a trade to the Detroit Red Wings over the course of the summer.
On Friday, the aforementioned Rangers traded defenseman Jacob Trouba to the Anaheim Ducks, marking an end to his tenure as the organization's captain and putting a bow on what was quickly turning into a very chaotic situation in New York.
Part of what made everything so chaotic appeared to be the fact that Trouba himself was not inclined to leave the Rangers and had a 15 team no trade list to help him remain in place, one that he is believed to have used to block at least 2 trades over the course of the past several months. On Friday, Trouba finally got a chance to speak on the matter and when he was asked if he had any regrets about how he handled the situation his answer left no doubt about how he felt at the time.
"No I don't," said Trouba without any hesitation. "It's unfortunate it all went public but I had a choice to make between my career and my family and I chose my family. I'll make that same decision a thousand times over."
Many have felt that Trouba's play on the ice suffered as a result of a potential trade hanging over his head and he admitted as much while speaking out about the recent trade.
"Definitely was a challenge coming into this year with that hanging around," admitted Trouba.
It sounds like being forced to be away from his family was a deal breaker for Trouba and he again reiterated that he has no regrets about using all of the tools he negotiated in his contract in order to prevent that from happening.
"I had the choice to stay with my wife and son as long as I could or move somewhere while they stayed in New York, I was gonna take the chance to stay with my family," said Trouba. "That's the most important thing to me and I have no regrets at all about that decision."
Trouba revealed that sadly he would be separated from his family now that a trade has been made with his family remaining in New York while his wife completes her residency, one that is expected to end in July of 2025.
"Family is staying here for now and she's gonna finnish up her job and what she's committed to and we'll figure out a way to grind through this," admitted Trouba.
I hope that everything will find a way to work out for Trouba and his family, and I wish him all the best on the next chapter of his career. You can check out his full comments in the short clip below:
