Insider shocks with scenario that moves Sidney Crosby to Toronto!

Can it get done you think?

Sidney Crosby has been eligible to sign a contract extension with the Pittsburgh Penguins since Monday, however, no deal has been agreed upon and has fans worried and a lot of pundits talking.

It even prompted TSN’s Bryan Hayes to propose a shocking scenario in which Crosby would sign with none other than the Toronto Maple Leafs.

“If [Crosby] is going to wait it out, play his final year, and hit free agency next year, [then he should sign with] the Toronto Maple Leafs — it doesn’t get bigger than that in the hockey world,» Hayes said. "Maybe the greatest Canadian captain of all time, or real close to it, with Wayne Gretzky, with Mark Messier, with Mario Lemieux.

“One of the great winners of all time. Golden goal in 2010. Come home, come to Canada, end the Canadian Cup drought as a Maple Leaf. [John] Tavares leaves, Sid comes in. It all works out for everybody.”

Crosby’s agent Pat Brisson did explain ahead of the NHL Draft that he would take the time to speak with his client about the vision for the coming years in Pittsburgh and to see if the captain likes the look of the future with the team that selected first overall in 2005.

Hayes knows the Maple Leafs aren’t afraid to make bold moves, which fed into his scenario of parting with captain John Tavares and leave that spot to Crosby.

It’s been a disappointment run in Toronto for Tavares and recent rumours have him being stripped of his captaincy. All of the chatter adds up and makes you wonder if Hayes is onto something.

Crosby is as busy dealing with rumours and if the Penguins don’t make the necessary changes to become a true contender again. The captain in Pittsburgh could consider going home to Canada, but would it be with the Maple Leafs?
