Insane trade rumour emerges out of Edmonton for blue line boost!
No one saw that one coming! But could you imagine if GM Stan Bowman can pull this off.
The Edmonton Oilers remain on the hunt for a boost on their blue line, especially if they keep getting back on track to become a top contender once again in the postseason, seeking a different result than last June against the Florida Panthers.
As general manager Stan Bowman keeps shopping, insider Elliotte Friedman gave him a few names to target on the “Oilers Now with Bob Stauffer”. Friedman listed four targets for the Oilers, which included Anaheim Ducks’ Cam Fowler, Chicago Blackhawks’ Connor Murphy and Matt Benning before he was flipped to the Toronto Maple Leafs. However, in a stunning turn of events, he also named Hawks’ Seth Jones as one defenseman to go after.
“Another one is Seth Jones, but I don’t know how on earth they could make that work,” Friedman said.
Friedman is right that it would be a tough trade to pull for Bowman and the Oilers, but what if they can find a way?
Edmonton would first and foremost need to work around Jones’ hefty $9.5 million contract and his no-movement clause, though I hardly imagine Jones would not love to play for a contender during these rebuilding times in Chicago and get a chance to play with Connor McDavid.
The Oilers might have to get a third team involved for it to 50 percent of his salary and I could see it happening.
And that would be a crazy trade to pull off this season and one that would bring an insane upgrade to the Oilers’ back end.
The Utah Hockey Club, Detroit Red Wings, San Jose Sharks and Maple Leafs have already gotten involved in trades that saw defensemen moving, maybe Edmonton is next to pull the trigger on immediate help on their blue line.
