Injury update: Auston Matthews, Matt Murray, TJ Brodie.
Leafs share more details on their injured players.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have shared some information regarding the banged up members of their roster and to be perfectly honest most of it comes off as pretty good news.
To no one's surprise the Leafs announced on Sunday that star forward Auston Matthews is headed to injured reserve, but even that can be taken as a bit of good news with Matthews avoiding the potential need for a long-term injured reserve designation considering he is expected to be out a few weeks.
The Leafs also announced that injured defenseman TJ Brodie has been activated off of injured reserve and is expected to be back in the lineup after missing double digit games as a result of a rib injury. Brodie has previously stated that he was in game shape earlier this week and it looked like he was merely awaiting medical clearance to play, and it would appear that his wish has been granted.
Although the Leafs did not provide a direct update on goaltender Matt Murray, with Murray currently undergoing evaluation after suffering an injury of his own this week, they have made the move to call up goaltender Joseph Woll from the Toronto Marlies. The addition of Woll does appear to indicate that Murray is going to miss some time, although that is still only speculation at this time.
Update: Sheldon Keefe has shared an update on Matt Murray, indicating that he will in fact be missing some time.
"There's something there that’s going to require some time for sure," said Keefe. "The length of time we won't quite know really until we come back from the break. We'll have a better idea of exactly where that's at."
Woll has been outstanding in the American Hockey League this season with a 2.46 goals against average and a .928 save percentage over 13 games with the Toronto Marlies, so it's hard to argue that he hasn't earned his chance to showcase his skills at the National Hockey League level once again.
Last but not least, forward Bobby McMann has been loaned to the Marlies in what is likely a corresponding move.
