Huge update on injured Ranger Mika Zibanejad.
New York Rangers forward Mika Zibanejad went down with an upper-body injury on Sunday.
The New York Rangers had a pretty big scare on Sunday when star forward Mika Zibanejad left an intra-team scrimmage with an injury after a physical incident of some sort with a fellow teammate.
Thankfully for the Rangers and their fans it sounds like it really was just a scare, as Zibanejad appears to be none the worse for wear on Monday. New York Rangers insider Larry Brooks of the New York Post is now reporting that Zibanejad is back on the ice with his teammates on Monday, news that will no doubt result in many fans breathing a huge sigh of relief.
Not only is Zibanejad a huge and important part of the Rangers offense, but he is coming off of a career best season that saw him record 39 goals and add 52 assists last season for a total of 91 points, eclipsing his previous career high of 81 points in a single season.
We still don't know exactly how Zibanejad was injured in the first place, with Rangers head coach Peter Laviolette only confirming that it was indeed the result of some type of physical play.
"It can happen anywhere. It’s a fast game," said Laviolette on Sunday. "It was competitive, guys were physical, there were puck battles, so there was some contact."
Something tells me Zibanejad won't have to worry about any similar incidents happening again during what remains of the Rangers' training camp.
