Sad news for the Bruins defenseman.

Boston Bruins defenseman Hampus Lindholm has suffered something of a personal tragedy.

Earlier this week, Swedish news outlet Aftonbladet reported that the National Hockey League defenseman had his home completely destroyed by a fire, the cause of which is currently unknown. As you saw from the photograph on the cover on this article, the home suffered considerable damage as a result of the fire, so much so that we can see the roof has been badly burned and damaged as a result of the blaze that raged within the defenseman's home.

Thankfully, Lindholm has been able to confirm that he was not home at the time so thankfully it sounds like no one was hurt as a result of the blaze.

"I was not at home and no one was in the house. It was my alarm system that sounded the alarm and I had to rush home," said Lindholm as per Aftonbladet.

"A house is a house, it is only material and no one has been injured," said Lindholm of the fire.

Although Lindholm has downplayed the loss of the home, considering he had renovated the villa this has to be a major headache for the talented Swede. The headache could have been considerably worse however as there were initially fears that the fire could spread to other homes, one of which was only 1 metre away from Lindholm's own villa in the densely developed area.

Authorities do appear to have some theories as to what could have started the fire, although it does not appear a conclusion has been reached. Law enforcement has reportedly started an investigation into possible arson, while another theory is that a battery charger that was plugged in could be the culprit. We will likely have to wait for the investigation to be concluded before we get a more concrete answer regarding the nature of the fire.

Lindholm however isn't worried about any of that, and is instead grateful for what he calls the important things.

"I don't know anything about the reasons and don't want to make a big deal out of it," said the Bruins defenseman. "The main thing for me is that no one has been hurt, my father and mother live nearby. I am grateful for all the support I have received, the Boston Bruins have reached out and offered their help. Those are things that mean something in a situation like this."
