Sweden has produced some of the greatest talent that the National Hockey League has ever seen, from the likes of Börje Salming to Peter Forsberg, Mats Sundin to Henrik Zetterberg, Henrik Ludqvist to Markus Naslund, and plenty in between.
But the Swedish Ice Hockey Association has officially named whom they believe to be the greatest native Swede to lace up a pair of skates, and it's none other than former Detroit Red Wings defenseman and captain Nicklas Lidstrom.
Known affectionately as "The Perfect Human", Lidstrom accomplished just about everything possible during his legendary NHL career.
During his career, Lidstrom earned 12 All-Star Game appearances, seven Norris Trophy wins as the NHL's top defenseman, four Stanley Cup wins, and also earned the 2002 Conn Smythe Trophy as the Stanley Cup Playoffs Most Valuable Player. He also became the first Swedish captain to lead an NHL team to the Cup win, doing so in 2008.
