Goalie suspended after clocking player who crashed his net with his blocker.
The goalie got his revenge with a mean shot to the head but now it will cost him.
It would appear as though Montreal Canadiens prospect Jacob Fowler went to the Ron Hextall, or Jordan Binnignton, school of goaltending.
On Friday Fowler had an outstanding first period holding down the net for the Boston College Eagles, stopping 23 shots from the University of Connecticut Huskies, but unfortunately the moment that everyone is talking about today is how he reacted to a goal that was scored in the early moments of the game's second period.
Fowler has now been suspended for his actions in the second period after he reacted to a goal, and contact from the player who scored it, by delivering what looked like a pretty nasty punch to the head of his opponent, Uconn forward Tristan Fraser, while still wearing his blocker. You can ask anyone that has ever been hit by a blocker before and I'm sure they will confirm to you that it doesn't feel very good, with the piece of protective equipment easily doubling as a weapon in those scenarios.
As you can see from the replay of the goal itself, Fraser does make a good bit of contact with Fowler while scoring the goal so it's pretty easy to see why Fowler's temper got the best of him here. You can also see Fowler dropping Fraser with a punch to the head, again using his blocker to do so, moments after the goal is scored.
Here is a closer look at the punch from Fowler and the subsequent reaction from Fraser.
It comes as no surprise that Fraser quickly fell to the ice while clutching his head, especially when you consider the fact that Fraser likely never expected the blocker-punch to come his way.
The NCAA has suspended Fowler for one game as a result of the incident, which means that he will be ineligible to play the Eagles' next game which is scheduled to take place this coming Tuesday, November 19th, and will instead only be eligible to return a week from the time of the incident which is next Friday November the 22nd.
