Gerard Gallant is not done in the NHL. While he was fired by the Rangers after spending the past two campaigns in New York, Gallant told insider Pierre LeBrun that’s he’s “eager” to coach again. He will be paying close attention if any vacancies arise throughout the 2023-24 season.
“Definitely interested in coaching again,” Gallant told The Athletic over the phone Monday.
Gallant amassed a 99-46-19 record in two seasons with the Rangers before the team made the playoffs only to be ousted in the first round, losing a seven-game series to the New Jersey Devils. Then there were reports that Gallant and Rangers general manager Chris Drury had a heated altercation after the club’s Game 4 loss, which led to Gallant being let go.
There is some belief that Gallant still has a lot to offer in the NHL as, before he joined the Blue Shirts, he was the first bench boss in history of the Vegas Golden Knights. He led them to the Stanley Cup final in their inaugural season in 2017-18, but he was fired during his third season in January 2020.
Gallant also spent time as the head coach of the Columbus Blue Jackets and Florida Panthers. He owns an all-time record of 369-262-4-70. And he’s looking to add to it.
