Following their first-round series elimination at the hands of the New Jersey Devils, several reports have emerged out of New York that a heated altercation between head coach Gerard Gallant and general manager Chris Drury took place during the postseason.

According to Arthur Staples of the Athletic, Gallant and Drury got into it after Game 4, in which the Rangers lost the contest 3-1 on home ice, letting the Devils equalize the series. New Jersey ultimately took the series in seven.

Despite the fact that it’s been said over and over that Gallant’s run in New York might come to an end, the head coach defended himself at his end-of-season interview on Wednesday, adding that he was disappointed at the media for making up stories.

I can’t believe I have to answer some of these questions about me getting fired, brought up by the media,” Gallant said. “Disappointing.”

Staple does not believe the Rangers will in fact fire Gallant. The insider believes that some candidates for his replacement, which includes veterans Peter Laviolette and Darryl Sutter - aren’t enticing enough to convince Drury to fire Gallant this summer.

Gallant took the job over in the Big Apple before the start of the 2021-22 season and has led the club to back-to-back 100-plus point seasons. He was nominated for the Jack Adams Award after his first year behind the bench on the strength of a 110-point effort while also leading the club to the Eastern Conference Final.

However this time around, Gallant couldn’t adapt to the Devils’ speed and momentum and the Rangers were ousted way earlier then most fans anticipated…

It makes sense to hear that both Gallant and Drury were upset about it, that they ended up screaming at one another…
