Georges Laraque drops bombshell on P.K. Subban trade

Hockey fans certainly won't soon forget that defenseman P.K. Subban was once known as one of the league's top players at his position. Not only did he win the James Norris Memorial Trophy as the NHL's top defenseman in 2013, he was also a finalist for the award in 2018. He was also considered among the most exciting players on the ice. 

But it wouldn't be long before the enigmatic personality fell on hard times on the ice, seeing his stats fall off a cliff in recent years. He's coming off the massive eight-year, US$72-million contract he signed with the Montreal Canadiens in 2014 before a high profile deal in 2016 that sent him to the Nashville Predators for Shea Weber.

It certainly was a stunning one-for-one trade when it went down. But now, according to former Habs tough guy Georges Laraque, it was tension between Subban and two of his high profile teammates in Brendan Gallagher and captain Max Pacioretty that led to his being shipped out of town despite his hefty contract.

Brendan Gallagher really did not like Subban at all. PK. Subban knew that Gallagher didn't like him.

In the locker room, Pacio and Gally really didn't like him. They would go see the GM Marc Bergevin and tell him we want him out.

The only reason the Canadiens could have kept Subban is if they traded Pacioretty and Gallagher."

There have been reports that surfaced during his playing career that Subban eventually began to rub his teammates the wrong way and appeared to be more focused on his personal brand and social media presence rather than his play on the ice.

He's decided to call it a career at 33 years old after spending the last few years with the New Jersey Devils and being unable to find a suitor for his services this past summer, during which he said he'd only play for a contending team.
