Gaudreau family responds to tribute from Boston College.
The family of Matthew and Johnny Gaudreau has responded to a lovely tribute from Boston College.
It has been months since the terrible incident that claimed the lives of National Hockey League star Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew Gaudreau, but I am happy to report that the hockey community around the world continues to honor their memory and show support for the Gaudreau family.
This week, Boston College held a special tribute for the two Gaudreau brothers as well as former Philadelphia Phantoms forward Tony Voce, who also passed away earlier this year, one that was supported by the Gaudreau family themselves. The event featured a new set of tribute jerseys that have been made available for purchase through an online auction, jerseys designed to raise funds for both the Tony Voce Foundation as well as the adaptive playground initiative at the Archbishop Damiano School in Westville, New Jersey.
It was a lovely tribute to the Gaudreau brothers and a wonderful way of showing the Gaudreau family the continued support of the hockey community, one that clearly touched the Gaudreau family which has since responded with a very emotional message. That message comes to us directly from the boys' mother, Jane Gaudreau, who took to social media on Friday to thank Boston College for their support through this initiative and more since Johnny and Matthew have passed.
"Thank you to [Boston College Men's Hockey] for honoring our boys this past weekend," wrote Jane via social media platform X. "The love and support you’ve shown for John, Matty, and our entire family have helped us through the most difficult time of our lives."
Jane continued by sharing that some of her best memories were of her sons playing for Boston College and even went so far as to thank the boys on the team for picking up two big wins as her sons were being honored this week.
"Many of our best hockey memories come from the six unforgettable years we spent watching John and/or Matty play at BC," added Jane. "The tribute Boston College gave to the boys was so special and we know they were especially happy for the two wins!"
There is obviously no amount of love or support that can ever make up for what the family has lost, but I do hope that Jane and the rest of the Gaudreau family can find some small solace in the large and lasting impact that their boys have left on the hockey community around the world.
Please continue to show your love and support to the Gaudreau family during this awful time.
