Frank Seravalli reveals where Mark Giordano wants to be dealt!
He's almost certainly going to be moved from Seattle.
Veteran defenseman Mark Giordano made history last year when he was named the first ever captain for the expansion Seattle Kraken, the National Hockey League's 32nd franchise. Of course, he already had ample experience as a leader, having served as captain for the Calgary Flames for multiple seasons.
He was held out of the lineup in last night's game against the Tampa Bay Lightning, fueling further speculation that a trade is imminent.
And according to Frank Seravalli of The Daily Faceoff, Giordano would prefer to be dealt to his hometown team, the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Take a look at his comments below:
"The Kraken have been steadfast in their ask for a first-round pick for Giordano," Seravalli said. "Even though he’s older at 38 and has a significantly higher salary cap hit than Chiarot, Seattle’s point is that Giordano has the Norris Trophy pedigree to support the ask.
Giordano will have some sway in the matter. He essentially holds a 12-team “no-trade” list, or 19 teams to which he has approved a trade. If everything is equal, the Kraken would like to send their captain to a preferred destination.
That’s where the Toronto Maple Leafs come in: We’re told if Giordano has his wish, he’d like to go home to play for the blue and white.
The Maple Leafs appear to have prioritized help on the blue line, and Giordano is near the top of their list, along with Lindholm. It may well come down to price. Will Seattle’s ask drop to a second?"
The Leafs could certainly use help on the blue line, especially given the uncertainty of the timetable for Jake Muzzin's return from a concussion.
The 38 year old Giordano has skated in 55 games this year with the expansion Kraken, scoring six goals along with 17 assists and a -21 plus/minus rating. Of course, he recently appeared in his 1,000th career game last week
