Former Ottawa Senators defenseman Dimitri Filimonov has passed away suddenly at just 52 years old.

The 6'6" native of Perm, Russia was drafted in the 3rd round (49th overall) of the 1991 NHL Entry Draft by the Winnipeg Jets, but was traded to the Senators in 1993. He managed just 30 games for the Sens, scoring one goal and five points in 30 games during the 1993-94 season.

Filimonov would go on to have a stellar career in his native Russia, playing for his hometown team Perm Molot.

Though his time in the NHL was brief, he'll always be remembered as a fierce competitor who never backed down from confrontation. Rest in peace and prayers for his friends and family.
