Fear isn’t going away when it comes to Leon Draisaitl’s future in Edmonton
Not what fans want to hear…

Fans in Edmonton are feeling the pressure as they’re monitoring the conclusion of two long-term contracts for arguably the two best players on the planet. Captain Connor McDavid is under contract for the next three seasons with the Oilers, while Leon Draisaitl is inked for just two more seasons. Both players will become unrestricted free agents at the end of their deals, assuming there are no contract extensions in place. The Oilers can begin negotiating a new deal with Draisaitl next offseason, while McDavid will have to wait for the summer of 2025.
Robert Tychkowski of the Edmonton Sun put fans even more on edge on Thursday when he commented in his article that fear isn’t going away “unless and until they sign extensions in Edmonton”.
However, Draisaitl, whose time could be up before McDavid and might be tempted to try his luck somewhere else for a Stanley Cup after 2023-24, isn’t giving fans the answers they want to hear.
“It’s not really on my radar right now, to be honest,” he said. “I’m here to play my best game and help the team get to where we want to get to — a Stanley Cup. I’m not focused or worried about what happens in two years.”
Tychkowski reminds fans and Draisaitl that this season will be his last chance to win a Stanley Cup before that decision has to be made.
With that, he’s right! FEAR ISN’T GOING AWAY!
