Failed trade reported for Canucks’ JT Miller during his leave of absence!
Find out how it all fell apart down below:
Last month, the Vancouver Canucks announced that veteran forward J.T. Miller would be away from the team on an indefinite leave of absence due to personal reasons. The team did not elaborate on the circumstances surrounding Miller’s absence, but it did not take long for rumours to emerge and speculate on why the forward was taking time away from the team. The rumours included gossip on Miller’s personal life and mental health, along with the unfortunate chatter on a possible trade or even his desire to leave Vancouver.
Amongst all of the noise, a report emerged that the New York Rangers have allegedly attempted to acquire Miller, but that a deal could not come to fruition. According to Arthur Staple and Peter Baugh of The Athletic, general manager Chris Drury recently inquired about his availability in a possible trade, however, he was reluctant to include Braden Schneider in a deal. It could be why it all fell apart.
“A league source said the Rangers recently inquired with the Canucks about J.T. Miller, who is currently on an indefinite leave of absence,” it reads. “Miller was a 2011 first-round pick by the Rangers and has been coveted by Drury before — the Rangers were after Miller before the 2021-22 trade deadline, but wouldn’t include Braden Schneider in a deal. Miller then signed a seven-year extension worth $8-million a year, pulling him off the market.”
Miller, who has not played since Nov. 19, has posted six goals and 16 points in 17 games this season.
I understand why the Rangers would love to have him back in New York, however, at this time, his mental health is the most important thing and he needs to figure out what is best for him.
