Failed trade for Carter Hart almost sent him to Canadian team before he was charged!

Could you imagine how terrible that would have been for the team on the receiving end??

It has been confirmed that the sexual assault case of five players from Canada’s 2018 world junior hockey team is set to be before a London, Ont., court on Monday.

Carter Hart, Dillon Dube, Cal Foote, Alex Formenton, and Michael McLeod are each charged with one count of sexual assault. The latter, a forward for the New Jersey Devils, is also facing an additional charge of sexual assault for “being a party to the offence.”

The Philadelphia Flyers officially removed Hart from their team’s website, and this has brought back chatter from this summer when the goalie was placed on the trade block and was almost moved to Canada.

Flyers general manager Daniel Briere reportedly attempted to trade Hart to some teams in the NHL, including the Montreal Canadiens. According to Arpon Basu of The Athletic, Habs GM Kent Hughes was absolutely not interested. And some believe it was perhaps he had doubts about what was going to happen in the 2018 World Juniors investigation.

On top of that, Andy Strickland recently revealed how the Flyers look to trade Hart during the summer, “knowing this was eventually coming down.”

The Canadiens were apparently not the only team in Canada linked to Hart. There was trade chatter throughout the offseason liking him to the Edmonton Oilers and the Toronto Maple Leafs. There was also mentions of the Buffalo Sabres and New Jersey Devils at the time of the offseason rumours.

Carter is scheduled for restricted free agency and was playing, ahead of his leave of absence, the last of a three-year, $11.937 million deal and has a cap hit of $3.979 million.

The Flyers did not manage to trade him - good for the rest of the 31 clubs - and will have to deal with whatever happens next with Carter.
