Extremely classy move by Sidney Crosby after fan gets mistreated by Red Wings security
In Detroit, one fan could have had a terrible night. Instead, Crosby made sure it was great.
The Pittsburgh Penguins rebounded in Detroit last night when they got their first win of the 2024-25 season, beating the Red Wings 6-3. Captain Sidney Crosby collected two assists in what was an important rebound from season-opening 6-0 home loss to the New York Rangers on Wednesday.
It was the home opener for the Red Wings and their passionate fans were in attendance, however, many others travelled to Hockey Town to cheer on the Pens and see the superstar Crosby in action. According to Hooked on Hockey Magazine, that included a fan who came with a Rimouski Oceanic jersey of Crosby, one from the time Sid spent in the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League from 2003 to 2005.
Unfortunately for that fan, when he placed his over the tunnel in Detroit, security ripped it out of his hands and threw it back into the crowd. When Crosby realized what had happened, he made sure the Penguins’ staff would track down the fan and organize a meeting with him.
After the game, Crosby signed the jersey and made sure that fan had a great experience despite Detroit’s security getting fiesty.
That’s just pure class from the Penguins’ captain, who never seems to miss the opportunity to make a kind gesture.
In the end it was a good night for both the fan and Crosby, who has eight multi-point games in his last 11 against the Red Wings thanks to his two apples. In 22 career games against Detroit, the Pens’ superstar has accounted for 18 goals and 28 assists.
Crosby has always been known to be a sweet guy off the ice, though some fans like to remind other that he can be sneaky and whiny on the ice. For example in the Pens’ home opener against the Rangers, Crosby was accused of playing dirty when he was caught chirping and taking a shot, swinging his stick, at NY rookie Victor Mancini, who was not afraid to talk back to the Penguins’ star. The two had got tangled up in front of New York’s net moments earlier.
But good guy Sid was in Detroit last night and one fan has a great souvenir of it.
