Evidence exposes how GM Chris Drury has given up on Rangers ahead of trade deadline
The Rangers may be 4 points out of a playoff spot, Drury isn’t going to help them make it. Full story below:
The Rangers have been doing better since the start of 2025, however, Larry Brooks of the New York Post believes that the team’s recent improvement likely won’t turn them from sellers into renters at the trade deadline.
Brooks explains how he does not expect general manager Chris Drury to sacrifice future assets for quick fixes to gain the second wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference. He goes on to wonder if recently acquired Will Borgen, acquired in the Kaapo Kakko trade to the Seattle Kraken, will have more value as a trade chip or on the Rangers blue line.
Borgen is coming up on free agency in July and could be used in a transaction for draft picks or prospects to ticken the pool in New York.
Brooks only wonders if the Rangers will continue to have much patience, and empathy, moving forward with oft-injured center Filip Chytil.
This will be GM Drury’s focus as the March 7 deadline nears, since that he was already quite busy earlier in the season when he shipped out captain Jacob Trouba to the Anaheim Ducks and Kakko to Seattle.
It has also been reported that he has allowed defenseman Zac Jones to communicate with rival teams about a potential trade, which could get done ahead of the deadline.
As Brooks explains, all signs point to the Rangers being sellers at this year’s deadline even if New York and its players keep working hard to rack up wins and points…
