Evan Bouchard slammed after catastrophic performance on Saturday.

Edmonton Oilers defenseman Evan Bouchard has been getting a ton of flak following his performance against the Leafs.

Edmonton Oilers defenseman Evan Bouchard has drawn the ire of fans after an admittedly catastrophic performance on Saturday night, and it's pretty hard to blame fans for being frustrated at the situation.

Bouchard would play 25 minutes and 39 seconds, eating up a considerable chunk of ice time on Saturday night, but it was his performance during the game's third period that has caused all the uproar. Bouchard was on the ice for the Maple Leafs final 3 goals of the game and you could quite easily make the argument that he was directly responsible for at least two of those.

The first and the easiest to blame Bouchard for was a brutal giveaway in his own zone when he fired a puck off the body of teammate Connor McDavid, setting up an easy goal for Maple Leafs forward Matthew Knies in the process.

Jordan Schmaltz, a former National Hockey League defenseman in his own right, called out Bouchard for being what he describes as a turnover machine.

That would have been bad enough, but Bouchard's actions on the next Maple Leafs goal would be what would get him the bulk of the criticism over the weekend. Not only would Bouchard miss the puck at the blue line, failing to keep it in the offensive zone, but he also appeared to give up on the play and stopped skating very early... leading to a breakaway for Maple Leafs forward Bobby McMann who found the back of the net.

As one user on social media platform X put it, "Evan Bouchard just straight up clocked out of his shift early" with that post earning over 3000 likes.

While I don't think it would be fair to blame him for the eventual overtime winner from Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner, Bouchard was on the ice for that goal as well.

One game of course does not define a player, especially not one like Bouchard who has well over 300 NHL games under his belt between the regular season and playoffs, but I can certainly understand why fans aren't happy with him right now.
