Erik Karlsson, politely, roasts the Ducks and Coyotes.
Karlsson speaks the truth.
The National Hockey League's Salary cap was meant to usher in an era of parity in the league where in theory every team could compete on a level playing field. The end goal was to hopefully have every team in the league be competitive, but as this season has shown that isn't always going to be the case.
It's one thing to notice the disparity in the standings but it's another matter entirely when a player in the league makes it clear that there is indeed quite the distinction between some of the teams in the league.
On Sunday night, the San Jose Sharks were on the receiving end of a pretty ugly loss on home ice when they faced off against the Calgary Flames. Although the Sharks would keep it close throughout the first two periods of play, the Flames would light them up for 3 goals in the third period and blow the game wide open.
It was the second loss in as many nights for the Sharks who had previously managed to string wings against the Anaheim Ducks and Arizona Coyotes together, and when he was asked about what went wrong San Jose Sharks defenseman Erik Karlsson gave a brutally honest answer.
Specifically, Karlsson was asked about the improved puck management the team had shown against the Coyotes and Ducks and where that aspect of their game had gone in the last 2 losses.
"No disrespect, but playing L.A. and Calgary is different than playing Anaheim and Arizona," said Karlsson bluntly.
The Ducks have the second fewest points in the league this season and have won just 9 of their 32 games played so there's no arguing Karlsson's point on that front and the Coyotes have been a disaster for years now and this season is no different with just 24 points collected and only 10 wins in their first 29 games.
It may have been a bit harsh from Karlsson, but he isn't wrong.
