During Tuesday’s game between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Flyers in Philadelphia, a scary scene occurred in the stands when two fans were assaulted by another in vicious fashion.

In a video posted to social media, three Maple Leafs fans – two men and one woman - appeared to be waving while standing in front of the glass. The play is in stoppage and so they aren’t bothering anyone, expect this one intense Flyers’ fan who has been trending for days for the wrong reasons.

The Flyers fan might have been thinking that the Leafs’ supporters were taunting the home team, but that does not excuse what he did next. He hopped over several rows of seats to confront the visiting fans and ended up punching the two male fans before their female friend eventually tried to break things up.

Wearing a black T-shirt, a black Philadelphia Eagles hat and glasses, the attacker landed several punches to the heads of both men before he stopped his assault and went back up the stairs like nothing happened.

On Thursday, a Wells Fargo arena spokesperson revealed that the Flyers’ fan in question was escorted out of the arena and Philadelphia police said they are investigating the altercation. No one filed a police report about the assault, a police spokesperson said, but the video is being reviewed.

“The department is looking into the incident,” the spokesperson said to the Philly Voice.

“We do not condone or tolerate violence or disrespectful behavior of any kind and will continue to promote a safe and inclusive environment at all games and events,” the arena spokesperson said.

Wells Fargo Center officials are not aware of anyone seeking to press charges as of now. But the review and investigation into the video could lead to repercussions.

Stay safe when you head out to NHL games wearing the rival team’s gear and most importantly, do not start a fight with anyone not wearing your club’s colours.
