Detroit Red Wings rookie Lucas Raymond earns shoutout from Detroit Lions

Motor City sports brethren stick together!

Michael W.

It's a night he'll remember for the rest of his life!

Detroit Red Wings
forward Lucas Raymond tallied his first career hat trick last week against the Chicago Blackhawks, upping his goal total on the young season to four and also setting some Red Wings history in the process.

He's the first Red Wings rookie to record a four-point night since both Nicklas Lidstrom and Sergei Fedorov did so in 1991, and has already entered himself into the conversation of Calder Trophy winner potential.

And you can bet his fellow sports brethren in the Motor City have taken notice. Detroit Lions wide receiver Kalif Raymond posted a special video message for Lucas earlier today:

"From one Raymond to another, congrats on your first hat trick! I'm sending you a jersey, best of luck this season!"

Of course, his hat trick wasn't the only accomplishment. Take a look:

* Lucas Raymond became just the second teenager in Red Wings history to score a hat trick, joining franchise icon, and current general manager, Steve Yzerman who did so twice (Dec. 23, 1983 & March 30, 1985).

* Lucas Raymond scored his first career hat trick and became the first Red Wings rookie to tally three or more goals in a game since Johan Garpenlov (4-0—4) accomplished the feat on  Nov. 23, 1990.

Lucas Raymond (19 years, 210 days), who scored the NHL’s fourth hat trick in two days, became the League’s second teenager in as many seasons to score a hat trick, joining Senators forward Tim Stützle (3-0—3 on May 8; 19 years, 113 days).

* Detroit has had two hat tricks this season (also Tyler Bertuzzi: Oct. 14), the most through the club’s first six games of any campaign in franchise history. They became the fifth team in 20 years to have multiple players score a hat trick through the team’s first six games of the season, joining Boston (2 in 2018-19), Pittsburgh (2 in 2013-14), Colorado (2 in 2007-08) and Philadelphia (2 in 2002-03).

Lucas Raymond collected 3-1—4 and became the third teenager in Red Wings history to record at least four points in a game, joining Steve Yzerman (3-1—4 on Dec. 23, 1983) and Gordie Howe (0-4—4 on Dec. 17, 1947).

Red Wings fans may not have been very happy (and understandably so) when they didn't receive the top overall draft selection in the 2020 Draft, but things sure appear to have worked out for the best.
