Depleted Blackhawks acquire 2 new forwards on Saturday.

The Chicago Blackhawks have made some adjustments on the fly that will allow them to patch new holes in their lineup.

Desperate times call for desperate measures.

On Saturday, the Blackhawks announced that they had lost two more forwards with both rookie sensation Connor Bedard and veteran forward Nick Foligno suffering fractures over the course of a single game. This has left the Blackhawks in an injury situation that is almost too bad to believe and it has forced Blackhawks general manager Kyle Davidson to quickly make adjustments.

Blackhawks insider Mark Lazerus summed up the Blackhawks injury situation quite succinctly by highlighting the fact that the Blackhawks currently have more cap dollars on injured reserve than they do on their actual roster.

No one is going to do the Blackhawks any favors at this time of year but in spite of that the Blackhawks quickly acquired forward Rem Pitlick on Saturday, trading away a 7th round pick at the 2026 National Hockey League Entry Draft to the Pittsburgh Penguins in order to acquire Pitlick.

Pitlick has not played in the NHL this season and has instead appeared in 32 American Hockey League games with the Penguins affiliate team in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Over the course of those games, Pitlick has put up 8 goals and added 16 assists for a total of 24 points.

The Blackhawks also picked the pocket of the Arizona Coyotes on Saturday when they submitted a waiver claim for forward Zach Sanford. Sanford, a veteran of over 300 NHL games, had previously appeared in 11 games for the Coyotes this season and had 2 points to his name, both assists.

These players will of course come nowhere close to replacing either Bedard or Foligno in the lineup, but with the Blackhawks already down forwards Taylor Hall, Tyler Johnson, Anthony Beauvillier, Andreas Athanasiou, Joey Anderson and Taylor Raddysh, they are simply attempting to make the best of a terrible situation.
