David Pastrnak speaks out after being benched for the entire 3rd period.
Boston Bruins star forward David Pastrnak spoke to the media on Monday following a full period benching from coach Jim Montgomery.
The Boston Bruins had a bit of a controversy on Sunday night after Bruins star forward David Pastrnak spent the entire third period riding the bench.
There were some initial concerns that Pastrnak may have been hurt at some point during the game, but following the game head coach Jim Montgomery would confirm that the decision to leave Pastrnak on the bench had been made by the coaching staff and not Pastrnak or the medical staff. That meant that Pastrnak had done something to displease his coach and displease him enough that Montgomery felt a message needed to be sent.
On Monday, we learned exactly what had displeased Montgomery when Pastrnak himself spoke to members of the media about his benching the night before. Much like Bruins captain Brad Marchand did earlier this season, Pastrnak took full responsibility for the coach's decision. Pastrnak would indicate to reporters that he had made a bad turnover during the course of the game and made no effort to argue the decision from his coach.
Pastrnak could have very easily chosen to be critical of the benching on Sunday night, but instead he indicated that he wanted to take responsibility for his actions, avoid being a distraction for his teammates, and move on from the incident as quickly as possible.
"That was a bad turnover," said Pastrnak as per Bruins reporter Conor Ryan. "I just want to move forward. I don't want to be any distraction to our team. The guys know how I feel about them here. It's a bad play. I take accountability and already moving forward."
