Detroit Red Wings forward Filip Hronek was absolutely trucked by Minnesota Wild forward Ryan Reaves during last night's game at XCel Energy Center; the former was assisted off the ice and did not return to action, while the latter was not penalized and it was decided by the NHL Department of Player Safety that he wouldn't face any supplemental discipline for the hit.

But now, a former Detroit Red Wings tough customer of his own who laid out plenty of hard body checks is offering his thoughts on the matter. Four time Stanley Cup champion Darren McCarty took to his social media account to weigh in on the heavy hit from Reaves. In McCarty's mind, the hit would have been no harm, no foul back in his playing days; but his issue is the consistency of how head shots are called in today's League.

Take a look at what he had to say:

"Clean hit in my day. Reaves doesn’t do anything but his job and destroys Hronek. Being a smaller player and leaning forward in the middle of the ice makes you a 🎯. That’s Clean and Accepted. In 1995. My issue is with @NHL because I WAS TOLD @nealruhl THEY CARED about headshots"

Do you agree with McCarty that the NHL is being inconsistent with how hits to the head are being called?
