Crosby, Malkin and Letang trending for bizarre decision minutes before last night’s game!
Weird scene in Anaheim last night for the Penguins’ Core 3. Full story below:
During warmups, ahead of Thursday night’s matchup against the Ducks in Anaheim, the Pittsburgh Penguins rushed onto the ice and right away, insiders and fans noticed something unusual.
On the ice, the three Penguins’ beloved veteran, captain Sidney Crosby, star forward Evgeni Malkin and top defenseman Kris Letang, were not wearing helmets during warmups. Team insider Josh Yohe shared the information on social media with the following caption, which got the three star players trending almost immensely:
“Maybe they’re becoming daredevils in their old age.”
Fans were especially stunned to see Crosby without a helmet, seeing how superstitious the Penguins’ captain can be and usually sticks to a strict regiment before games. And not wearing a helmet has been part of the program ever since the NHL imposed a fine on players who got bucketless during warmups.
And so yes, Crosby, Malkin and Letang will be handed a fine for not wearing a helmet on the ice during warmups.
However, it did not provide the three stars players with any luck or good fortune. The Penguins lost 5-1 at the hands of the Ducks, with Crosby and Malkin ending the night with a -2 rating and Letang unable to stop Anaheim’s young scorers.
