Connor McDavid’s fiancee shares heartbreaking message about her man on Instagram

The agony of defeat.

Chris Gosselin

It’s been a tough couple of days for the Edmonton Oilers, who lost by just one goal in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals to the Florida Panthers on Monday night.

Captain Connor McDavid remained on the ice as all of his teammates headed to the dressing room, showing an inspiring leadership. He was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy for most valuable player during the playoffs despite playing for the losing team. However, McDavid did not come out onto the ice to accept the Conn Smythe trophy on Monday night on Florida ice.

Back home in Edmonton, McDavid’s fiancee Lauren Kyle shared her heartbreak on her Instagram story and took the time to thank the Oilers’ fanbase for their passion and support.

“As heartbroken [as] I am I feel so grateful to be in Edmonton with this group,” she wrote in an Instagram Story. “Just need to say how proud I am of everything we accomplished this year, win or loss. Seeing so many fans travel across the continent to support our team was so incredible. We have the BEST fans in the league and no one deserves it more. We will bring it to Canada soon!!”

When asked about his feelings in the post-game presser of the Finals, McDavid could only say that “it sucks.” He was however visibly emotional and would have most likely traded in his Conn Smythe Trophy for the Stanley Cup in a heartbeat.

“We knew it was gonna be tight. Game 7 for the Cup,” McDavid said. “We knew it was gonna be a real tight game, it was gonna come down to one thing here and there.”

His teammate Leon Draisaitl was too heartbroken and shared touching comments on his captain after the loss.

“There’s no player in the world that wants to win a Stanley Cup more than him. (He) does everything right every single day just to win it one day. It’s really hard, especially him (McDavid) being sad.”

Kyle and McDavid got engaged just over a year ago on June 22, 2023, and will probably now spend some time together, moving past this heartbreaking loss and heading into the 2024-25 season.
