Connor McDavid names his choice for captain of Team Canada at the 4 Nations Face-Off

While there hasn't been much fanfare for it, the NHL's inaugural 4 Nations Face-Off begins in just under 4 months time.

Today, the NHL revealed uniforms of the four competing teams: Canada, USA, Sweden and Finland.

Check it out:

Yawn...

I honestly have a hard time getting excited for this "tournament". It simply isn't the best on best international hockey that fans have been asking for since the Sochi Olympic Games in 2014. This is an NHL created invitational tournament sponsored by Rogers and Bridgestone Tires... it ain't the Olympics and it ain't the World Cup. It's a complete cash grab for the NHL and its partners and it doesn't even come close to the prestige of the Olympics Games.

Having said all that... I'm sure I'll tune in to watch.

I made the same gripes back in 2016 when the NHL dusted off the World Cup and I still tuned into the games, despite all the circus pageantry of made up teams like Team Europe and Team North America.

If nothing else, this invitational tournament might give us one last look at Sidney Crosby wearing the captain's "C" for Canada. At least, that's what Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid would like to see.

When asked earlier today who he thinks should captain Canada at the event, he gave a very direct answer: "Should be Sid. Not even a question."

Naturally, there's no better choice.

The real question is... who wears the "A's"?

McDavid is obviously a strong candidate, so is fellow superstar Nathan MacKinnon. How about veterans like Brad Marchand or Steven Stamkos though? Speaking of vets, how about defenseman Drew Doughty? Or maybe Cale Makar deserves the nod on the blueline?

Personally, as a bit of an old school guy I'd think the best leadership group for Canada would be those with Stanley Cup rings on their resume... and McDavid.

Captain: Sidney Crosby

Assistants: Nathan MacKinnon, Drew Doughty and Connor McDavid.

Sounds about right?
