Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl’s reactions to offer sheets LEAKED and it wasn’t pretty!
One of the Blues’ players was training with them when the news broke:
Back in August, the St. Louis Blues tendered their double offer sheet for Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg of the Oilers. Earlier this week, Edmonton general manager Stan Bowman explained how the offer sheets far exceed their current ability and led to the Oilers letting both players go.
“The players can probably grow into those deals, but as of today, they’re way above their actual performance,” Bowman told The Athletic’s Pierre LeBrun.
When Edmonton lost Broberg and Holloway to offer sheets to St. Louis, Blues forward Robert Thomas was one of the first to receive the news. And when he did, he was training with Oilers superstars Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl.
Awkward…
On Tuesday at the NHL Player Media Tour in Vegas, Thomas explained how “was with multiple Oilers players including Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. Awkward moment and Thomas explained that they weren’t too happy,” explained Matt Larkin in a tweet.
The Oilers had tough choices to make this summer, but both McDavid and Draisaitl had applauded the early moves in the offseason. Then, Edmonton signed Draisaitl to a historic contract. The team keeps dealing financial restraints from a tight salary cap situation, and it ended with Holloway, along with Broberg, Warren Foegele and Vincent Desharnais, becoming key departures from last season’s roster.
We can understand how it was hard for McDavid and Draisaitl to react otherwise, especially in front of Thomas when they found out two of their teammates were now joining his club in St. Louis.
