Canadian broadcaster Gord Stellick announces terrible tragedy.

A voice that has brought joy to many Canadian hockey fans over the years announced a personal tragedy over the weekend.

Former Toronto Maple Leafs general manager and former New York Rangers assistant general manager turned Canadian broadcaster Gord Stellick has shared some truly terrible news.

Last week, Stellick took to social media to announce a terrible family tragedy, the passing of his younger sister Karen Hardie. Stellick revealed that Karen had sadly succumb to cancer after what he describe as an inspiring fight on behalf on his little sister.

From Stellick:

Bob, Craig and our mother Rhoda are mourning the passing of our younger sister Karen Hardie earlier today after an inspiring 2 1/2 year battle with cancer. Our thoughts and prayers are with her husband Brad, her children Graeme and Laura and future daughter-in-law Aayushi.

Although Stellick served as an executive in the National Hockey League, I would argue that far more people know him today because of his many years of work on the Canadian radio airwaves. Today Stellick can still be heard on The Fan 590 or SiriusXM Satellite Radio's NHL Network Radio, and has no doubt touched the lives of countless hockey fans over his many, many years of work.

Stellick made the announcement on Friday and I am happy to report that we have seen an outpouring of love and support from the hockey community. Here are just a few notable examples:

I can't imagine what Gord or his family are going through, the thought of losing your younger sister or daughter is nothing short of heartbreaking. I would like to extend my most sincere condolences to both the Stellick and Hardie families.
