Canada eliminated in one of the most controversial games in World Junior history

UPDATE 2: It's all over.

Canada has bowed out of the World Junior Championships in the Quarter-Finals for the second year in a row.

In a game chock full of controversial moments, Canada just couldn't overcome the adversity they faced. The effort was there, but the execution was lacking in nearly every aspect of the lineup.

In the end Canada ended up with 35 penalties in just five games, taking some truly awful penalties.

The worst though might have been their last penalty, taken by head coach Dave Cameron for an ill-advised Coach's challenge. Well... maybe actually Andrew Gibson deserves that title. 

With the game tied and with Canada overcoming bad coach and bad officiating the team kept pushing in the 3rd period... right up until Czechia took the lead with just 39 seconds remaining with Gibson in the box for a bad hit.

UPDATE: Team Canada appeared briefly to tie things up with Czechia midway through the 3rd period of tonight's game, only to have the goal waived off by officials.

There was clear goaltender interference and an ajar net when Canada scored, prompting officials to waive off the goal immediately. The play was ultimately reviewed and confirmed, yet for some reason head coach Dave Cameron elected to challenge the play. That's right, Cameron elected to stick his neck out on an obvious non-goal call. Spoiler alert: It was no-goal and Cameron put his team on the PK.

Not only did Cameron put his team on the PK, but he also sucked all of the momentum out of his team's sails.

Less than 10 minutes into tonight's Quarter-Final matchup between Canada and Czechia at the World Junior Championships this evening and the host country is absolutely reeling.

With the stage set and with Canadian hockey fans going wild in Ottawa, Czechia scored less than a minute into the game.

Then, with less than 10 minutes left in the period forward Cole Beaudoin was given a five minute major and a game ejection for a knee on knee collision.

The officials spent a considerable amount of time analyzing the hit before electing to hand out the Major penalty to Beaudoin.

After Tanner Howe managed to pull the game even with a shorthanded goal, the Czechs regained the lead after defenseman Sam Dickinson puts the puck in his own net!

So to recap Canada's start:

- Goal against in the first minute
- Undisciplined penalty to take you off the power play
- 5-minute major
- Own goal
