Calgary Flames appear poised to make another move.
The Flames made a roster move on Sunday that now leaves the team with an abundance of players on the back end.

If there was any doubt that the Calgary Flames would be sellers ahead of the upcoming National Hockey League trade deadline, they erased those doubts last week when they moved one of their most impactful forwards. That move sent forward Elias Lindholm to the Vancouver Canucks and in exchange the Flames received forward Andre Kuzmenko as well as a first round pick, a fourth round pick and prospects Hunter Brzustewicz and Joni Jurmo.
It was a significant move from Flames general manager Craig Conroy and based on another minor move he made over the weekend it seems like Conroy may just be getting started.
On Sunday, the Flames made the curious decision to add undrafted defenseman, and former Stanley Cup winner, Brayden Pachal to their roster by claiming him off waivers from the Vegas Golden Knights. Pachal is a fine depth addition to the roster, but his addition is a move that leaves the Flames rather bloated on the back end.
Not only does the move leave the Flames with 4 right shot defenseman on their active roster, but it leaves them with 8 defenseman in total, leading many to believe that something will have to give and will have to give in relatively short order.
The Flames are of course looking to sell off assets ahead of the trade deadline and two of the names that have come up quite often belong to Chris Tanev and Noah Hanifin, a pair of defensemen. The move to pick up Brayden Pachal now looks like it very likely was designed to add to the Flames depth at the position in anticipation of one, or perhaps even both, of those trades.
