Bruins writer suggests ex-Bruin to replace Linus Ullmark

Could this actually happen?

Boston Bruins goaltender Linus Ullmark earned himself a Vezina Trophy nomination for playing a key role in his team's historic regular season that saw them win 65 out of 82 games.

He boasted a near pristine record of 40-6-1 with a 1.89 goals against average, .938 save percentage along with two shutouts. Oh, and there was also the matter of his having become the first goalie in the near century-long history of the Bruins to score a goal.

Unfortunately, it was all for naught as Boston suffered a historic collapse in Round 1 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs against the Florida Panthers. The Panthers took advantage of the fact that Ullmark was clearly not fully healthy and overcame a 3-1 series deficit to shock Boston in seven games, with the fateful deciding game at TD Garden featuring backup Jeremy Swayman between the pipes rather than Ullmark, who had started the previous six.

Ullmark still has two years left on his contract at a reasonable cap hit, but could the Bruins be looking to make a major change in goal?

It's already been suggested that the Bruins could move on from one of Ullmark or Swayman, and one particular Bruins writer has his eyes on a former B's goaltender to full the void in current Calgary Flames backup Dan Vladar.

According to Mark Allred of The Black N Gold Podcast and BNG Productions, he'd gladly take Vladar back in town if the team moves on from Ullmark, specifically citing his reasonable $2 million cap hit.

Vladar, who was drafted with the 75th overall selection in the 2015 NHL Draft, appeared in five career games with the Bruins while mostly playing with their AHL affiliate Providence Bruins before being dealt to the Flames in 2021.

He has a career NHL record of 29-14-8 with a goals against average of 2.89 and a .899 save percentage.
