Boston Bruins forward Trent Frederic was not going to turn down Los Angeles Kings’ Brendan Lemieux’s invitation to drop the gloves on Thursday night.

In the second game of last night’s game between the two thriving clubs, Frederic was more than happy to get his hands on Lemieux in one of the best fights of the season.

Both men were exchanging tough blows as they squared off, both popping helmets with punches, but Frederic getting the best of the fight. The tilt came to an end as both men hugged it out of exhaustion following the intense exchanges and officials stepped in to separate them.

After the Bruins’ 5-2 victory, Frederic almost seemed more thrilled about teaching Lemieux a lesson, commenting how he was not going to ignore the LA agitator’s invitation.

“[Lemieux] was kind of running around in the first, so I definitely thought about it [then],” Frederic told Sophia Jurksztowicz during the NESN postgame show. “And when he came up to me, I can’t ever say no to him.

“I’m not a big fan of him, so every chance I get, I try to [fight him].”

Frederic was most likely referring to one altercation in the first period in which Lemieux hit Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy. This was the third fight between the two players since Frederic made the jump as a full-time NHLer in 2021.

We bet that Frederic isn’t a fan of Lemieux also because of his relationship with the Bruins’ forward’s childhood friend, Ottawa Senators captain Brady Tkachuk after Lemieux allegedly bit him during a game in November 2021.

“The guy’s just a joke,” Tkachuk said of Lemieux back then. “He shouldn’t be in the league. This guy’s gutless. No other team wants him. He’s going to keep begging to be in the NHL, but no other team wants him, he’s an absolute joke. I can’t even wrap my head around it. People don’t even do this. He’s just a bad guy.

“He’s just a complete brick head. He’s got nothing up there. Bad guy, bad player, but what a joke he is.”

Watching last night’s fight between Frederic and Lemieux, we have a feeling that Tkachuk smiled and liked the turnout.
